Today I attended the first day of a seminar titled “Green Building for Building Professionals” which is a mandatory course for the NAHB’s new “Certified Green Professional” (CGP) designation. It is held as part of the NAHB’s National Green Building Conference in Dallas, TX. Being mainly involved with the LEED for Homes standard in the past, I have not had much time to look into details of the new NAHB certification program until today. I have to say that after my first day learning about the details of the program I am pleasantly surprised about the standards and certification paths available for green builders and contractors. It is in many ways very similar to the LEED for Homes standard, but seems a lot easier to implement. Very similar to LEED, the program awards points in several categories to achieve one out of four certification levels, bronze, silver, gold or emerald. I will be attending day 2 of the seminar tomorrow and will post more information and details about the program in future posts.

Interesting article! Thanks for the info. A certification program for green builders and contractors, particularly in an age where green homes are so much in demand is sure worth a look.
